Important lessons for creating a safe environment for adapted judo to be practiced, during ✨️Safety first!️ Seminar✨️, organized by Svenska Judoförbundet and Special Needs Judo Foundation:
🧩there is no importance in what type of disability a person has, judo offers them a chance to overcome mental and physical barriers and find a place to enjoy themselves while connecting with the others;
🧩nonverbal communication is very important in a-judo, as a disabled judoka understands and performs better when the coach not only shows him what to do, but also accompanies him/her in practicing;
🧩building a trustful, friendly, playful and eye contact-based communication is the foundation for a long term judo relationship with Special Needs atheletes;
🧩SN athletes need time to understand, process and integrate new information; so, each coach should know how to measure the amount of time each judoka needs in order to be able to perform and adapt the effort to suit the judoka’s power;
🧩SN judo means an entire team: coaches, assitant coaches, volunteers, parents, friends, and judoka;
🧩SN judo is about joy, empowerment through gradual learning and practice and TEAM SPIRIT.
